Help & Support

Quick answers about WIPS. If yours isn't here, email me and I'll help.

Getting Started

What is WIPS, in one sentence?

WIPS is a free task app built for how ADHD brains actually work. It meets the day you're having instead of demanding a day you're not.

Do I need to make an account?

No. There's no sign-up, no login, and no email required. You open WIPS and start adding tasks. That's on purpose: fewer steps between you and getting something out of your head and onto a list.

How do I install WIPS on my phone's home screen?

On iPhone: open wips.summerfieldtech.com in Safari, tap the Share button, then Add to Home Screen. On other phones and tablets: open the same link in your browser, then choose Install App or Add to Home Screen from the browser menu. Either way you get an app icon that opens WIPS full screen, no browser bar.

Features & Daily Use

What's the difference between the free version and Pro?

Everything you need to run WIPS day to day is free: unlimited tasks, Focus View, Zen Mode, Brain Dump, energy check-ins, and a handful of starter themes. WIPS Pro is a one-time unlock (no subscription, ever) that adds extra themes, task templates, the full calendar month view, and mood and energy history. It is not available to buy on iPhone yet.

What are "energy days" and how do I use them?

Once a day, WIPS asks a quick question: Survival, Steady, or Go, and there's no wrong answer. Pick whichever matches how you're actually doing, and WIPS quietly adjusts how much it shows you. Fewer, gentler tasks on a Survival day, more room on a Go day. It's there so the app meets you where you are instead of guilting you for not being at 100%.

What is Zen Mode, Focus View, and Brain Dump for?

Zen Mode is a short guided space for breathing, affirmations, and grounding when things feel like too much. Find it in the app's drawer menu. Focus View simplifies your home screen down to fewer tasks at a time, so the whole list isn't staring at you at once (turn it on in Settings). Brain Dump is a fast, full-screen way to get thoughts, worries, or half-formed tasks out of your head and onto the screen without deciding what they are yet. You can sort them or turn them into real tasks later.

Why does the app ask about my energy level? Is that required?

It's not required. It's the once-a-day Survival, Steady, or Go check-in described above, and you can turn it off entirely in Settings under Features, then Energy Check-in, if it's not useful for you. When it's on, it just helps WIPS scale back what it asks of you on harder days. No answer is wrong, and skipping it doesn't break anything.

How do I export my data (for a clinician, or just to back it up)?

Go to Settings, then Your Data. Export Clinical Report builds a printable summary (save it as a PDF) that's meant to be easy to hand to a therapist or doctor. Download My Data (JSON) gives you everything WIPS has stored, in one file, as a personal backup. Both stay entirely on your device. Nothing is uploaded anywhere to generate them.

Your Data & Privacy

Where is my data stored? Can WIPS see my tasks?

Everything you add to WIPS (tasks, notes, moods, journal entries, settings) stays on your own device, in your browser's local storage, or the app's private storage if you've installed it. The WIPS app itself has no server and no database, so nothing you type ever reaches me or anyone else. I can't see your tasks even if I wanted to. Full details: our Privacy Policy.

What happens to my data if I delete the app or clear my browser?

This isn't something you did wrong. WIPS stores everything only on your device, on purpose. That's the whole privacy promise: nothing about your tasks ever leaves your phone or browser. The tradeoff is that clearing your browser data, using a private or incognito window, or switching devices can take your WIPS data with it, and I have no way to see it or bring it back from my side. Going forward, Settings, then Your Data, has an export (a Clinical Report PDF or a raw JSON download) you can save anywhere. Worth doing every so often as a backup habit.

Can I move my data to a new phone or browser?

Not automatically. There's no cloud sync yet, so a new phone or a different browser starts fresh. You can save a copy of what's in WIPS anytime from Settings, then Your Data ("Download My Data (JSON)"), which is a good habit before you switch devices, but there's no import button yet to load that file back into a new install. It's a backup and a record, not a transfer tool. Cloud sync is real feedback I hear often, and I'm taking it back to the roadmap conversation. No promises on timing, but it's not a no.

Can you restore my data if it's gone?

There's no account to restore from. WIPS was built with no login and no cloud sync on purpose, so I genuinely can't see or recover anyone's data. I know that's a hard answer if you've lost something you cared about, and I'm sorry. The export in Settings, then Your Data, is the only backup that exists, so if you have one from before, that's your way back.

Platforms

Is WIPS available on iPhone?

Not yet as a dedicated App Store app, but wips.summerfieldtech.com works fully in iPhone Safari, and you can add it to your home screen so it opens like an installed app (see Getting Started above). A dedicated iPhone app is in final testing now.

Troubleshooting

I found a bug. How do I report it?

Thanks for flagging this. I want to get it right, so a few details help a lot since I can't see anything from my side (that's the privacy tradeoff: nothing about your device or your data reaches me automatically).

Send it all to hello@summerfieldtech.com.
